THE STORY OF MARINO AND THE BEAR

Dialogue Scene 1

Characters: Grandmother and three children

 

Child 1: What happened?

Child 2: No light...it's dark!

Child 3: I'm scared of the dark!

Child 1: What was that?

Grandmother: Nothing, children, just a thunderstorm, don't worry.

Child 2: Tell us a story Grandma

Child 3: Yes, tell us a story about San Marino Grandmother: All right, children

Dialogue Scene 2

Characters: Marino, soldiers, prisoners , the grandmother


Grandmother (reading the story): Marino, our patron saint, arrived in Rimini on the Adriatic Coast from
Dalmatia about 257 A.D.
Marino was a stonecutter and he cut stones for the town walls in Rimini.

Marino: Finally I have arrived!
Christian 1: Free us!
Christian 2: Save me!
Soldier 1: Keep moving!
Soldier 2: Why are you not walking?
Christian 3: God have pity on us!
Christian 1: We do not want to die.
Christian 2: Let us pray.
Marino:  I have arrived in Rimini but th
ere is no peace here, only persecutions.
              I will find refuge on that mountain. I will return to Rimini to work when it is safe.

Dialogue Scene 3

Characters: Grandmother, 3 children

Child 1: Was the way long and dangerous?

Child 2: Were there wild animals there?

Child 3:  What kind ?                                                                                                                                            Child 1: Who was hiding in the forest?

Child 2: How did Marino make the journey to Rimini?
Child 3: Did he go on foot?

Grandmother:    So many questions, children!

Yes, the way was long and dangerous and there were many wild animals and brigands in the forest. Marino travelled on foot but he had a donkey to carry his tools.

Dialogue Scene 4

Characters: Rufo, two brigands, Marino, the donkey, grandmother

 

Grandmother (reading): One day the brigand Rufo and his companions decided to capture Marino and take him to his persecutors in exchange for gold.

 

Rufo: Do not kill him. We want him alive.
Brigand l: Yes, companion

Rufo: And do not look into his eyes or listen to him speak.

Brigand 2: Let us hide behind these trees and catch him. Brigand 1: Where is he? I cannot see him

Dialogue Scene 5

Characters: Marino, the donkey, the bear, Grandmother

 

Grandmother (reading): It happened that Marino was very thirsty and so he stopped along the way.

Marino: Wait for me here, donkey, I want to drink at the spring.

Dialogue Scene 6

Characters: Rufo, two companions, Marino, the bear, group of women, grandmother

 

Grandmother (reading): Marino started on his way again. Rufo and his companions did not see the bear and they attacked Marino.

Brigand 1: There he is!

Brigand 2: Now the gold is ours.

Rufo: Follow us and save your life! 

Grandmother: But the bear roared and scared the thieves.                                                                                     : Rufo and friends: Help! Save us! The bear will kill us!.

Marino: No, he will not harm you. You are now my servants.

Grandmother (reading):That day at sunset Marino, the brigands and the bear proceeded on the way to Rimini.

Woman 1:Look! Who is coming? Who are those men?

Woman 2: What a strange procession.

Woman 3: It looks like Marino but that is not his donkey.

Woman 2: It looks like a bear.

Dialogue Scene 7

Characters: Children, Grandmother

 

Grandmother: Children, this is the story of Saint Marino and the bear.

Child 1: What a wonderful story, grandma!

Child 2: Tell us another one.

Child 3: Yes, please, grandma! 

Grandmother: No, sorry, it's time for bed.                                                                                                            All children: O.K. let's go...
